He believes himself to be a ladies man and that all the ladies want him. His parents aren't the wealthiest people among the middle class , but at least he is not a lower class servant. More info- This should be in fantasy medieval times Unfortunately he does not get to meet the rest of the group for he is found out by the knights just at the end of the chapter. # Brief Explanations: This chapter will be written in the first-person perspective of Myles, focusing on his playful personality and the tension of overhearing knights discussing Emperor Valdrik's plans. The dialogue between the knights reveals critical information about the twins destined to defeat the emperor, while also building suspense as Myles navigates through danger. # Chapter Nine: Shadows Among Us The crowd surged around me like a restless sea, each face a blur of worry and fear. I ducked and weaved, my heart racing not just from the thrill of escape but from the weight of what lay ahead. The old oak tree by the riverbank was my beacon, a promise of safety where Rowan, Lynette, and Sheela awaited. But with every step, I felt the oppressive gaze of the evil knights lurking nearby, their armor glinting ominously under the dim light of the torches lining the street. As I slipped past a vendor hawking stale bread, I caught snippets of conversation that made my ears perk up. Two knights stood huddled near an alleyway, their voices low but urgent. I edged closer, careful to remain hidden behind a stack of crates. “Did you hear? They escaped from the tavern last night,” one knight said, his voice gruff and filled with disdain. “Rowan and his little band of misfits think they can outsmart us.” “Fools,” the other knight scoffed, adjusting his sword at his hip. “Valdrik has no patience for such insolence. He wants them found—especially those twins.” Twins? My curiosity piqued, I leaned in further, straining to catch every word. “They’re destined to bring down the emperor,” the first knight continued, his tone dripping with contempt. “If they gain the power of Elestia, it’ll be the end of everything we’ve built for him.” I swallowed hard, the name ‘Elestia’ sending shivers down my spine. It was said to hold unimaginable power, capable of turning the tide against tyranny. “The girl and boy must be eliminated before they even have a chance to realize their potential,” the second knight added, his eyes scanning the crowd as if he could sense someone eavesdropping. “Valdrik’s orders are clear; find them and kill them. No mercy.” My mind raced. Rowan had mentioned something about twins, but I hadn’t grasped the full extent of their importance until now. If these knights were right, then our mission was more crucial than ever. We weren’t just running from the emperor’s wrath; we were carrying the hopes of many on our shoulders. “What do you think they look like?” the first knight mused, scratching his chin thoughtfully. “Do you reckon they’re anything special?” “Special?” The second knight laughed harshly. “They’re just kids! But Valdrik doesn’t take chances. He knows how dangerous hope can be.” Hope. That word echoed in my mind, mingling with thoughts of my own dreams. I wanted to be strong, powerful—a knight like my father once was. But here I was, hiding in shadows, listening to men who would snuff out that very hope without a second thought. Suddenly, the first knight turned sharply, his gaze locking onto my hiding spot. Panic surged through me. I couldn’t let them discover me—not now, when I was so close to reuniting with my friends. With a quick glance back toward the direction of the riverbank, I knew I had to move. But fate had other plans. Just as I turned to slip away, the second knight shouted, “There! Someone’s there!” In an instant, the world shifted from a tense whisper to chaos. I sprinted into the throng of people, adrenaline pumping through my veins. Behind me, I heard the clatter of armored boots pounding against cobblestones, the knights giving chase. “Myles!” I heard a familiar voice call out, but it was drowned by the roar of the crowd. I pushed forward, weaving through bodies, desperate to reach the safety of the old oak tree. But the knights were relentless, their shouts echoing in my ears. I glanced over my shoulder, catching sight of their determined faces, and realized that this time, I might not escape. With every ounce of strength, I propelled myself forward, praying that I wouldn’t become another casualty in Valdrik’s cruel game. The riverbank loomed ahead, but would I make it in time? As I dashed towards the tree, the realization hit me—I was not just fighting for my life, but for the future of everyone who dared to dream of freedom. And I wasn’t going to let Valdrik win. Just as I reached the edge of the clearing, a hand shot out from the shadows, grabbing my arm. I gasped, ready to fight, but then I saw her familiar face. “Myles, hurry!” Sheela urged, pulling me toward the shelter of the ancient oak. But before I could respond, the sound of metal clashing rang out behind us, and I knew our moment of respite was fleeting. The knights were closing in, and the battle for our destiny was only just beginning.
