Federalism+Drug Laws Users must post before seeing others' work. Whatever the first post is will be treated as the original post. Sometimes students will post one word to read everyone else's work first.That will result in a zero. Background: The founding fathers designed a system of federalism where the central (federal)government was intended to have power and where state and local governments were intended to have power. When addressing drug policies in this country, the federal government technically decides the classification of drugs and their legality. Yet, many states over the last decade or so have decided to decriminalize marijuana use for recreational purposes and/or medicinal purposes While federal policy still treats marijuana as an illicit drug, over half of the U.S. states do not. For this post, I would like the students to do the following: 1. How have states benefitted by permitting marijuana sales in their sales? 2. What are the dangers of having different policies/laws across states? 3. Weighing the benefits and costs, which level of government should regulate (permit or prohibit) marijuana sales and distribution, and why? For your reply to a classmate, I would like you to find an article (please remember your information literacy skills as to what a credible source it is) and share the URL of that article and at least two sentences as to why your classmate should read that article.
