"The Balfour Declaration" was a letter from the United Kingdom's foreign secretary, Arthur James Balfour, to Lionel Walter Rothschild, who was considered to be the most |influential leader of the British Jewish community. The letter was published in the newspapers one week later and it was widely considered by the Jewish community as a declaration of Great Britain's support for a Jewish homeland.
