Dr. Kinane, a plant ecologist working in a remote environment, notices a new
species of plant growing in a field. The plant shows little evidence of herbivory
by the grazing animals that live in the area. Out of curiosity.Dr. Kinane sets up
a series of camera traps (motion-sensitive cameras around an area that
contains the newly discovered plant. Sure enough the camera traps reveal
herbivores that actively avoid the newly discovered plant species. Curious as
to how the plant deters herbivores Dr. Kinane collects a sample of the plant
and returns to the laboratory. Under a microscope Dr. Kinane finds small,stiff
needle-like projections on the undersides of leaves.Dr. Kinane reviewed the
